Precious Gift

Hello Bride of Christ,

Reading. Oh reading. It is interesting to me how there is a universal culture since I was a child of people struggling with reading. The power of reading has always been known for it has been used to divide the rich from the poor, the slave from the master, the uneducated from the educated. There is power in reading.

It takes time to learn all the letter sounds, blends, and pronunciations. It takes more time to string it all together into a word and then into a full sentence for comprehension. This process for many is so difficult and robs them the joy of learning how to read. Personally I struggled as a child to read. The time spent learning to read was filled with shame, fear, and confusion. Thankfully, I had parents who did not give up on me and sought resources to help me. Oh I am so thankful they did because once I learned to read (including comprehension) a new world opened up to me. Father God knows the power of reading and written word, but so does the devil.
No wonder the devil tries to make reading boring and difficult for many whether through circumstances or learning disabilities. No wonder the devil would make the bible seem to be so hard to comprehend and so "inapplicable" and "boring." But God. Always a step ahead of the enemy and much like my parents does not give up on us. He sends his Holy Spirit, a helper, to motivate and give understanding.

See we are appointed to the word of God (1 Peter 2:8). We are appointed to the word of God to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edge sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)

Struggling with questions like what is God's will for me? How should I deal with this circumstance? Why am I struggling? Why do I feel so down? Why is life so hard? How do I manage my finances? How do I get out of debt? How do I parent? How do I do married life? How do I attain and keep joy, grace, peace, hope? All the answers to these questions and more are found in the word of God.

The word of God is a precious gift given to us by God. But first we must learn to read to appreciate it. Read.

Bride of Christ, it is the word itself that teaches you how to read. For Peter writes in 1 Peter 1: 23 "having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever." See once you are born again Jesus teaches you all over how to read. Read with a new mind. Read with a new perspective. Read with an enlightened understanding. Purifying your soul to obey the truth found in the word of God.

You will no longer find as Peter denotes in the book of 1 Peter the word of God as a stumbling block walking in disobedience to the word of God. Instead you will find the word precious and believe in it. It will become your chief cornerstone by which you build your life upon. For "in the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1) I encourage you to start today. Open up this precious gift from God. Invite His Holy Spirit to come give you a reading lesson. Allow the renewal of your mind to take place so you can experience being made alive by the One who gave you life from the beginning.
