The Walk of Humility

Hello Bride of Christ,

I have a confession to make. I am a slow learner.

School for so many years was very difficult for me. Most of the time I did not comprehend what was being taught but I was able to copy methods, follow steps, and arrive at the right answer. Why those steps? Why was the answer right? I had not a clue. I was never really ever able to answer why.

It was not until I became a believer that my ability to understand changed. Understanding and knowing the answer to the question why opened up a new world to me. Jesus and Father God desires we understand things. Now not all things but enough to walk in wisdom.

"See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:15

Paul in the book of Ephesians after sharing with us all the blessings and inheritance Father God has given His Bride through Jesus Christ, His son, encourages us to be wise. An active wisdom (walk). Paul is not the only one the Holy Spirit used to write on this topic, but the Holy Spirit used Solomon the wisest man to ever have lived. Solomon when asked by God what gift did he want he chose wisdom even though he could have asked God for anything.

In Proverbs 9 Solomon pens a comparison between wisdom and foolishness. Solomon shows us how the difference between wisdom and foolishness is such a fine line. "She (wisdom) has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city, 'Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!' As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 'Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding'" (Proverbs 9:3-6) Then Solomon writes, "For she (foolishness) sits at the door of her house, on a seat by the highest places of the city, to call to those who pass by, who go straight on their way: "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here"; And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 'Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.'" (Proverbs 9:15-17) Notice the similarities between these verses.

The call from wisdom and folly sounds awfully identical. Both Wisdom and Folly sit in high places in the city. They both call out to the simple person lacking understanding. However the result of answering to their calls is starkly different. It truly is a manner of life and death. For Wisdom will bring life to her visitor (Proverbs 9:6). While Folly will bring her visitor to the depths of hell (Proverbs 9:18). I do not know about you but I want to be able to respond to the right call!

Bride of Christ, the choice lies with the walker. As Paul tells us in Ephesians walk with understanding. Understanding what? Understanding the will of the Lord! (Ephesians 5:17) Notice in Proverbs the walker who Folly calls out to and who responds to Folly's call, what was said about their walk? "Who go straight on their way." Proverbs 9:15. Those who could hear and respond to Folly's call were those that were walking in their own way, their own understanding, their own desires. Not in the will of the Lord. Not acknowledging the Lord in all things and allowing the Lord to direct their path. Therefore, be encouraged if you are humbling yourself before the Lord and seeking to understand His will there is only one call you are able to hear and respond to and that is the call of Wisdom. I encourage you to reflect and analyze your heart. Is your heart submitted to God? Is it submitted to God's will in all things and for everything? If so, then respond to the cry of wisdom and "And do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speak to one another in psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear (reverence) of God." (Ephesians 5:18-21)
