The Helper
Hello Bride of Christ,
When I was a child going through grammar school I often struggled with learning. I was not quick to comprehend or had the ability to build on the foundation being established for me. I dreaded studying, for it was a long process... endless hours spent trying to memorize facts (because I could not understand them). Most of my school days I got by through simply regurgitating what was told to me. No understanding, no practical use of the information, no lasting impact was gained.
So when I was approached with the bible and encouraged to memorize it... I shrunk back because I was quickly taken back to my elementary school days. This seemed to be an impossible task. Honestly, I thought a useless one as well since all my "studying" days never really amounted to much. Then I came across this section of scripture...
Abide
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." John 15:7
These are Jesus' words to His disciples encouraging them to abide with Him. Abide means to live in accordance to and to dwell in. In order to live in accordance with Jesus I needed to know and understand His word. This alignment with Him and His words was critical for He said it would serve as a gateway (you will ask what you desire and it shall...) to access the Father's will for my life.
But How? If I am slow to learn and slow to comprehend how could I live according to His words? Remember Jesus was speaking to His disciples. His disciples were the uneducated and not the wisest men according to society. Jesus knew their insecurities and that is why if we look prior to John 15 Jesus reveals an important part of His deity.
Encouragement
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I will go to My Father. 'And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father , and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you, forever- the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." John 14:12-17
So before Jesus encouraged the disciples to abide in His word, He told them He will pray to God and He will give you / me another Helper. This Helper is the Spirit of Truth. Not only that but this Spirit of Truth lives with you and will be in you FOREVER!
Now if our creator, Jesus, who was with us from the beginning tells us that HE WILL give us this helper, that this helper LIVES IN us and he is WITH us FOREVER, and to activate this relationship we just need to BELIEVE... what are we waiting for?
Believe
Bride of Christ, believe Jesus' words and allow the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to rise up within you to make your life bear the fruit of a bride loved well by her groom. May your life not wither but produce fruit in all seasons for God to receive the glory.
Slow to learn? Believe.
Bible hard to comprehend? Believe.
The Helper is waiting inside you to reveal the truths found in the pages of God's word.
