Run to Him

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
— Proverbs 18:10

Hello Bride of Christ,

Are you one of the forty percent of adults living a life gripped by worry? A lot of responsibilities come with adulthood. We make important decisions, which impact us and our sphere of influence. These decisions often made from our limited perspectives come with time bounds magnifying our fear of failure. Yet, God provides a remedy.

Moses, when visited by God through the burning bush, faced worry. God shared with Moses the burden of His heart, “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.” (Exodus 3:7) Moses personally knew the issue God was raising to him, for not too many years prior Moses had murdered an Egyptian because of the cruelty he witnesses between an Egyptian taskmaster and Hebrew slave. However, Moses was not prepared for God’s solution. God speaking to Moses says, “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharoah that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:10) Moses’ jaw gaping wide, I could only imagine, responds, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11)

Who am I?

When faced with a challenging task Moses instinctively looked at his own self-worth and qualifications to answer the call. The question, “who am I?” clouded his thoughts. The Holy Spirit inspired the writer of Proverbs 18 to provide us with a righteous person’s response to a hard decision. The proverb states, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10) A righteous person runs to the name of the Lord when faced with difficulty or a life challenge.  God, who defines righteousness, gave Moses the same advice.

When Moses questioned God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you’ and they say to me, “What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” (Exodus 3:13) God responded, “I AM WHO I AM. Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you. Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.” (Exodus 3:14-15)

Bride of Christ, God knows the daily pressure we live under. He invites us every day to access the power of His name. Moses conversed with God and revealed his worry. Through prayer, we too lay our worry down and gain access to the strong tower of God’s name. He encourages us today to run to Him. Let us decide today to run to Him and speak the name of God over our lives through prayer. The simple remedy of prayer in God’s name thwarts worry. His name instills nations with confidence to break free from slavery, turns a wandering murderer into one of the greatest leaders in history, and it last from generation to generation. Pray in the name of the Lord and watch worry dissolve away. Do not delay. Pray. Run. Find safety in the strong tower of His name.
