Help me understand Your thoughts

Hello Bride of Christ,

Have you ever been misunderstood? Language is limiting. Lately as I listen to those I deem great storytellers, I notice their richness in language. They can convey a thought and I’m able to not only visualize it but begin to feel it to the point of embodiment. I am moved to action through their words and story. Our God is the best storyteller and communicator. Ever wonder what are His thoughts that inspire such beauty?

All throughout the Word, the Bible, you will find traces of the Holy Spirit inspiring men to capture the thoughts of God. As the Psalmist penned long ago, “God, Your thoughts are very deep” (Psalm 92:5). Even great men like Paul the apostle and Isaiah the visionary prophet questioned, who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? (Romans 11:34; Isaiah 40: 13) The Lord’s thoughts are many, for His creation is the visible formation of the invisible thoughts of God. The Lord’s thoughts are intricate. Not sure? Observe how your eye functions, or how the Earth is the balanced habitat for human life. Or simply observe a flower and how it receives its nutrients and grows. All of creation is His handiwork. “For since the creation of world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…” (Romans 1:20).

Yet, with all these beauties there is still one prominent thought in God’s mind. This thought is seen from Genesis to Revelation.

It is consistent.

It is pure.

It is true.

It is love.

It is you.

The Psalmist captures it:

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done,

And Your thoughts toward us;

There is none to compare with You.

If I would declare and speak of them,

They would be too numerous to count.” (Psalm 40:5)

It might seem narcissistic or unrealistic to think the God of the universe’s main prominent thought is about you and me, but the word declares otherwise. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8) In Genesis, He thought to make us in His image. In the Old Testament, He thought to deliver the oppressed, establish covenants that declared His faithfulness to us and His abounding grace. In the New Testament, He thought to send us His One and Only Son, Jesus, for the ultimate redemption, write His words on our hearts, and give us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that we may look expectantly for His return. He knowns our thoughts. He knowns our rising up and sitting down (Psalm 139:2).

Bride of Christ, might His thoughts encourage you to draw even closer to Him who thinks of you often.  Take time and meditate on these words the Holy Spirit wanted you to be aware of, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;” (Psalm 139:17-18) What does God think? He thinks of you!
