Goodness

Hello Bride of Christ,

Good is the word God, the Creator, in Genesis 1 used to describe all that He had created (Genesis 1:31). The dry land earth, the gathering of waters, the expanse of heaven, the winged bird, the sea creatures, cattle, every creeping thing, and man, made in His image and likeness, He describes as good. Good meaning pleasant and agreeable to the sense. Pleasant and agreeable to whose sense?

Notice, in the beginning, was God, the Holy Spirit, and the Word for it is written, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3) This triune God was in the beginning and through Him all things were created and therefore it was His senses that defined good. Who better to define good than Good Himself?

Even Jesus testified of God’s goodness when He was approached by the rich young ruler stating, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:17) Throughout scripture you will find references to God being defined as good by His people, “ O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” (1Chronicals 16:34) Since, God is good. He defines it.

Everything He created, especially humanity, was pleasing and agreeable to Him. Until the day Eve leaned to her own understanding and Adam chose to submit to His wife and become complacent all of creation was pleasant and agreeable to God. Man, the human race, having lost its innate goodness God sends a way to restore goodness in man. Jesus.

Bride of Christ, through Jesus, becoming the visible God-man, enduring the cross, and restoring us to the Father the gift of the Holy Spirit was given. In the Old Testament before the Word of God became flesh the Holy Spirit was limited to coming upon people. As a result, people like Saul, Samuel, David, and many old testament saints testify of the Spirit of God departing from them. However, for us, New Testament saints the Holy Spirit dwells with us and in us (Colossians 1:27) we can experience a daily relationship with the Holy Spirit. One of the fruits of the relationship with the Holy Spirit, who was in the beginning with God as He created good things, is goodness. (Galatians 5:22) God has provided through His Son and the Holy Spirit a way for us to restore being pleasant and agreeable to His senses. Let us not waste another minute leaning to our own understanding like Eve or compromising like Adam accepting what this world calls good, but let us turn to Father God thank Him for the Holy Spirit, and then wait, listen, and receive the Holy Spirit for the Father is looking at you today to say, “it is very good!”
