A Heart Song

 Hello Bride of Christ,

What is making you sing these days? What is causing you to feel alive?

For some of us this may be the people in our lives, and for others this may be your occupation. Yet for others of us we may be having a hard time finding or hearing the song. Our circumstances can be drowning out the song or jumbling it.

The Song of Mary

Join me in Luke 1, as we take a close look at verses 46 - 49. Here in these verses we are going to hear the song of Mary's heart, but before we do let's discuss the situation we are zooming into.

Mary, young, engaged to Joseph to marry. Imagine, being arrange to marry someone and you get visited by an angel! Not only that this angel delivers a bewildering message... you are going to be the mother of God's one and only begotten son, Jesus! So much like any woman who receives news, she runs off quickly to her cousin and when they meet her cousin confirms her pregnancy for the Holy Spirit fills her and she says "Blesses are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!"

Now I don't know about you but this circumstance hardly draws a song of joy out of my heart, but rather I would be singing the blues. I am arranged to marry someone and now I am pregnant out of wedlock, and my truth is that I am pregnant by God! Geez who would believe me... I am not sure if I believe me...

But instead, Mary responds "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name."

How?

Notice Mary's heart song begins with her priority. The priority of magnifying... declaring God's greatness! She goes on to rejoice in God her Savior. Who at this point hadn't even been born yet. However, since her priority was to declare God's greatness that was her hearts intent, she declared it done. She declared Jesus as her personal savior. She also went on to declare her belief in what the angel had said to her... that she should "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women" Then she transitions her song to declare the great things God has done for her based on her history with Him... "For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name."

What's your heart song?

May you be able to muster up the courage to rejoice and sing in declaring God's greatness. May this encourage you to look at your circumstances and notice that God has equipped you and will do great things for you. All His promises are yes and amen. He who is mighty has and will forever do great things for you. Why? Because holy is His name.

Declare your Savior, Bride of Christ, and sing like no one is watching, and worship Him for He is worthy!
