A Blue Covering

Hello Bride of Christ,

Ever buy furniture you have to assemble? The package arrives and I carefully take every piece out of the box and lay it down in organized piles. Then I quickly open up the instructions. I read carefully through those instructions before beginning to assemble the item. Carefully. Very carefully to ensure not one item is misplaced. I look over the instruction with great detail.

When I lived in my condo we went through this assembly exercise many times for various pieces of furniture: desks, book shelves, tables. However, when it came time to move into our home many states away I did not reference a set of instructions on how to unassembled the furniture or how to get it to its new intended location in one piece. I simply leaned to my own experience with moving and what I had seen people do before. As you can imagine this resulted in a mix bag of results. Some pieces transitioned fine, while others acquired nicks and dents along the way.

Well the Lord is not as careless as me. He not only gives great detail on how to assemble but also unassembled because He knows life is by definition change. He knows the journey He has planned and all the equipment He desires for us to take on this journey of life.

The clearest depiction of the Lord's attention to detail can be found in the old testament in the books of Exodus and Numbers. Many people can often grow weary in the amount of detail the Lord provides Moses and the children of Israel with how He wants the tabernacle assembled. However, when I purchased the furniture for my condo I was grateful for the detailed instructions. I wanted to make sure I put the furniture piece together absolutely right so I can enjoy the use of it with no compromise. I believe the children of Israel and Moses, much like me, felt the same way. They wanted to get every piece of the Lord's instruction right so they can fully enjoy the presence of the Lord. But what about transitioning?

"When the camp prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons shall come, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of Testimony with it. Then they shall put on it a covering of badger skins, and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue; and they shall insert its poles." (Numbers 4:5-6)

Unlike our earthly instructions which only prepare us to put the item together, the Lord gives detailed instructions on how to break His tabernacle down to move on. Why? See if the instructions were not followed the family of Kohath would have touched these sacred holy items and died. Each item noted had significance, especially the blue cloth signifying it was a holy tabernacle piece indicating "fragile: you should use the poles!"

Bride of Christ, the Lord does the same in your and my life. He gives us specific instructions on various aspects of our life: marriage, occupation, family, real estate, finances, church, ministry, and the list goes on. He not only tells us how to assemble these areas of our lives but He also gives us instructions on how to transition these areas of our lives. His word, the holy bible, gives us all these detailed instructions. Are we ready to open it up and slowly take out all the pieces and read through it carefully so we can make sure to assemble it in the way He intended for us to enjoy it? Are we equally willing to wrap each area of it in His special manner so it can journey with us through life and not lose its intended impact? Slow down with God and wrap yourself up in His blue cloth for you are His holy tabernacle fragile and precious as He intended.
